Food Safety FIRST has a variety of materials and online resources for you to integrate food safety education into your teaching.


  • Science and Our Food Supply — When you enroll in the Food Safety FIRST professional development program you must order the Science and Our Food Supply curriculum from NSTA
  • Food Safety FIRST CD — The Food Safety FIRST CD (cost $20 plus shipping) contains PowerPoints, lab report worksheets, posters, and activities that you will use in the modules and can use in your classroom.
  • Food Safety FIRST Lab Kit — For Bacteria Are Everywhere or Food Handling is a Risky Business, you will also need to purchase (cost $34 plus shipping) the Food Safety FIRST Lab Supply Kit (L 8096) from Connecticut Valley Biological Supply Company (Telephone: 1-800-628-7748)

  • Microbial Growth Simulation Program, an adaptation of a computer program developed by the USDA to aid government regulators and food manufacturers in estimating growth characteristics of organisms under varying conditions.
  • Food Safety Library connects you to food safety, food science, and educational resources, which you can use at any time for your classroom or lab activities.
